ESI’s responsibility was to provide continuous long-term vibration monitoring of the existing data center during construction of a new R&D building next door. E-mail notifications automatically generated by the monitoring system were immediately sent to key project personnel informing them when predetermined vibration criteria was exceeded. This allowed the construction team to swiftly take action to mitigate the construction activities to protect equipment and critical operations occurring within the data center.

Increased control of the construction process for the owner and contractor proved beneficial in maintaining project schedule and budget while reducing risk.

Heavy construction occurring next to a sensitive data center can be problematic.
