United Hospital Construction Vibration - St. Paul, Minnesota

Monitoring

Location:

St. Paul, Minnesota

Client:

United and Children's Hospital

General Contractor:

McGough Construction

United Hospital completed a 192,000 square foot expansion in 2010. Over an 8-month period, ESI monitored vibration due to construction activities, which included earthwork, heavy truck and crane traffic, rock removal, and soil compaction. Two locations on the lower level and two locations on the first level were monitored in the existing United Hospital and attached Children’s Hospital.

ESI installed its proprietary vibration monitoring system that provided 1/3 octave rms velocity and peak particle velocity at each location.

Exceedance warnings were sent to stakeholders and details of the event were saved by the system for follow up analysis.
