Hanford High Integrity Crane - Hanford Nuclear Reservation, WA

Structural Design & Analysis

Location:

Hanford Nuclear Reservation, Washington

Client:

US Dept. of Energy

General Contractor:

PaR Systems

ESI provided detailed seismic and stress analysis services for the High Integrity Crane with Manipulator System, designed and fabricated by PaR Systems and used to transport nuclear waste at the Hanford site. ESI performed finite element analysis of the crane and manipulator, telescoping mast, hoist, and cable reel system under earthquake ground motion, and other load conditions as described in ASME/NOG-1 and NRC regulatory guidelines.

Our analyses allow for a slack rope condition resulting from high response spectrum curves. ESI's scope of work included static analysis, dynamic analysis, response spectrum analysis, nonlinear time history analysis, and design calculations.

ESI has worked with PaR Systems since the 1970s on structural and mechanical design/analysis for nuclear facilities.
