A sensitive laser research laboratory was located at basement level along a light rail construction zone through the heart of the U of M campus. In order to allow research activities to continue during a multi year construction schedule, it was decided to relocate the lab to a nearby building further from the disturbance. The complexity was that the proposed new lab location was directly above a mechanical sub-basement and adjacent to a series of vacuum pumps that had to remain operational.

ESI was in charge of providing continuous and transient vibration monitoring of the existing and proposed lab spaces in order to determine if the proposed location would be acceptable.

Data taken by ESI during LRT construction simulations was used to assess the potential for lab disturbance.
