Mortenson Construction

The Cancer and Cardiovascular Research Building is the centerpiece of the University of Minnesota’s Biomedical Discovery District. This project was an exciting opportunity for ESI to provide our expertise to help create a high-performing research building. Our scope included floor vibration and noise control as well as specification of mechanical equipment isolation for proper functioning of sensitive laboratory spaces.

A nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) apparatus on the second level required an isolated 21-inch deep monolithic concrete slab to meet VC-D floor vibration requirements for proper operation of this especially sensitive equipment.

A 20 foot floor structure cantilever required special attention to ensure the design met strict performance targets.
