Good Samaritan Hospital - Kearney, Nebraska

Vibration Control & Measurement

Location:

Kearney, Nebraska

Client:

Good Samaritan Health System

General Contractor:

Ellerbe Becket/AECOM

The expansion and renovation of the west tower of this hospital provided ten new operating rooms, new Cath labs, and imaging capabilities. ESI provided vibration and noise control services, and worked with the structural engineer to optimize the composite floor framing that was designed for very low footfall vibration levels. A large area of the floor structure was modeled using finite element analysis to achieve the best results possible.

Reinforcement of the existing floor structure was specified for the area occupied by two new ORs located in the existing building. ESI verified the effectiveness of the retrofit via vibration measurements.

Today's medical imaging equipment has a very low tolerance for vibration. Identification of potential sources of vibration is key, and often is the first step in the design process.
